SHL Medical donates YouBike stations to support low-carbon transportation
SHL Medical announced today (November 29) the donation and activation of two YouBike docking stations and 32 YouBikes in Taoyuan city, supporting the city’s commitment to low-carbon, sustainable transportation. YouBike is Taiwan’s communal bicycle-sharing system that allows residents to share-use bikes at low cost. This initiative aligns with SHL Medical’s dedication to carbon reduction, community well-being, and green commuting options for both employees and residents.
As the pioneering leader in design, development, and manufacturing of advanced drug delivery systems, SHL Medical has maintained a 35-year presence in Taoyuan. In line with its ESG sustainability goals, the company is committed to driving patient health and independence, reducing its ecological footprint, and ensuring responsible business practices. In partnership with the Taoyuan City Government, Taiwan Railways, and YouBike Co., SHL Medical launched the YouBike donation project, activating two docking stations with 64 bike stands in Taoyuan. SHL Medical has also donated 16 YouBike 2.0 and 16 YouBike 2.0E (electric-assisted bicycles), offering the community more eco-friendly options for short-distance public transport.
General Manager of SHL Medical Taiwan, Sebastian Feng said, “The two donated YouBike stations near our Taoyuan-Liufu and Taoyuan-Nanshan sites provide enhanced convenience for local residents and promote daily exercise habits among our employees striving for work-life balance. We especially thank the Taoyuan City Department of Transportation, the Office of Road and Maintenance, Taiwan Railways, and YouBike Co. for their invaluable support. As part of Taoyuan’s low-carbon green city plan, the city government has made plans to complete the installment of 517 YouBike docking stations by 2024, in efforts to increase options for green commute. With the addition of the two docking stations in Liufu and Nanshan, Taoyuan’s YouBike docking stations have reached a total of 511.
The Taoyuan Department of Transportation stated, “Creating a people-centered, safe, convenient, and high-quality transportation environment is our commitment to the residents of Taoyuan. Our goal is to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Taoyuan’s transportation through strategic management. We are grateful to SHL Medical for donating the YouBikes and stations, and to Taiwan Railways for supporting the installation of these sites, which collectively advance low-carbon, short-distance transportation options for local residents and employees alike. Through collaboration between the public sector, local businesses, and the community, we believe we can accelerate a greener transportation future for Taoyuan.”
To encourage sustainable commuting and increase usage of the newly installed YouBike stations, SHL Medical offers employees incentives for reducing carbon emissions, including limited-edition EasyCards and stored value credits for those achieving a monthly CO2 reduction (CO2e) of 30kg. In line with its commitment to employee well-being, SHL Medical also promotes employee health through free annual health checks, weight-loss initiatives, cancer screenings, and wellness seminars.
