An article examining SHL’s patient-centric approach to industrial designs was published in the May 2017 issue of OnDrugDelivery Magazine. The article, “Safeguarding User Needs: The Long-Term Legacy of SHL’s Patient-Centric Designs,” features an in-depth talk with SHL Director of Industrial Design, Jochen Ratjen.

In the article, Ratjen speaks about how SHL has capitalized on its near three decades of experience to design drug delivery devices focused on user needs. This includes the establishment of a “user process,” an initiative that will standardize the methods in which usability and human factors are understood throughout the company and incorporated throughout SHL’s design and development process. SHL has also built a comprehensive user study database, and invested in a brand-new design center featuring an interview studio dedicated to understanding patient needs.

Speaking on his personal journey, Ratjen shares some of his most heartfelt experiences interacting with patients during his career at SHL and explains how these memorable interactions have shaped his understanding of patient-centricity.
