PDCP - Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Packaging)
Job Overview:
As a Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Packaging) in our Component Process Development department (PDCP), you are responsible for the development, implementation, and qualification of advanced manufacturing processes for our packaging component portfolio. The primary focus lies on the introduction of advanced tray forming equipment and thermoforming tools to support SHL’s efforts to standardize and optimize our current manufacturing setup.
The main objective of this role as a Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Packaging) is to drive the technology transfer and migrate our vast portfolio of trays to new, advanced optimized, and robust manufacturing processes that balance high quality yields with optimal productivity to accommodate complex customer demands and enable future growth. Assuring successful project completion and process implementation within agreed time and cost constraints in close collaboration with cross-departmental stakeholder is a key aspect of this role.
Main Responsibilities:
- Drive internal technology transfers activities domestically and internationally
- Implement and qualify novel tray manufacturing technologies in collaboration with internal and external partners
- Establish technical documentation, such as user requirements specifications (URS), FAT/SAT protocols, and the corresponding reports, while leading the installation and commissioning of new machines and tools, including FAT, SAT, and IOPQ
- Safeguard relevant specifications and comply with regulatory requirements
- Design and conduct experiments to assess new technologies, materials, processes, equipment, etc.
- Lead research activities to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of upgrades and improvements
- Identify and implement innovative and differentiated packaging solutions, while pursuing a systematic approach to project experimentation, testing, and validation
- Strive for excellence: Co-shape an efficient, solution-oriented development framework to standardize development sequences, minimize complexity, boost efficiency, reduce throughput time, and eliminate non-value-adding activities
- Support and execute Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) initiatives related to packaging
- Work with internal and external partners to develop solutions while managing confidentiality, partnerships, or development agreements
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Relevant degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline
- Ideally 2-3 years of relevant work experience in a related field
- Sound understanding of different packaging concepts
- Experience in tray design and tooling development for vacuum forming or other tray forming technologies
- Fundamental understanding on transportation tests incl. relevant regulatory and simulation experience
- Self-driven with high levels of independence and persistence, a positive attitude, and a curious mindset
- Skilled in structured problem solving and logical thinking
- Comprehensive organizational skills and project management ability
- Strong desire to strive for excellence, even under adverse circumstances or when facing ambiguity
- Familiar with 3D design software (Solidworks or other CAD) and technical drawings
- Proficient communication skills in English (TOEIC 700 or above) and fluent in Chinese
- Effective communication and presentation skills to communicate complex information to diverse groups of stakeholders
