[Simulation] Senior Simulation Engineer

Job Overview

The Global Simulation Department, under the umbrella of CTO organization, provides simulation support in initial design phases to ensure feasibility, quality and robustness. The main department responsibilities entail product development, simulation models development and validation, material model development and validation, documentation of best simulation practices/workflows, training materials development and training support. The Structural Simulation Engineer with material focus (m/f) reports to the Global Simulation Manager and is responsible to plan and perform simulation tasks during innovation, product development and product care as well as participating in and running projects to build and improve material and simulation models. As part of the Global Simulation team, he/she will closely collaborate with simulation, testing and process experts based across our global sites in Switzerland, Taiwan and Sweden to drive alignment and gather, develop and document know how. Based on experience and qualifications, the role could be extended to Sr. Engineer role.

Main Responsibilities

  • Scoping, planning, execution and review of structural FEA simulation tasks
  • Support innovation, design, manufacturing process development and Root Cause Analysis
  • Interface with designers to recommend design changes required based on the analysis results
  • Author high quality technical reports, simulation workflows, procedures and training material.
  • Support simulation capabilities development and optimal workflow definitions.
  • Collaborate with material test labs to drive material model developments activities including (sample preparation, testing and data processing workflows)
  • Drive the development, organization and dissemination of knowledge in relation to material properties, test results and material models.
  • Collaborate with Design, Test and Process engineers to define simulation needs and verification activities
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate with internal and external customers to ensure simulation results are well communicated and understood

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Master’s in mechanical engineering with material and simulation focus, PhD is an advantage.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of solid mechanics and mechanics of materials.
  • Expertise in static and dynamic structural analysis by hand calculation and/or FEA.
  • Experience in FEA Pre and Postprocessors is a must, Hyperworks is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in FEA Solvers is a must, LS Dyna is strongly preferred.
  • Experience and interest in polymeric and metallic material properties testing and modelling is a must
  • Experience and interest in test methods development for material properties is must
  • Experience and interest in polymer and/or metal strength assessment (yield, rupture, fatigue)
  • Some understanding of injection molding and effect of process settings on material properties and parts.
  • Open mindset to collaborate across geographical sites and cultures, curious and attitude towards learning.
  • Some documented Project management exposure.
  • Good English skills (Verbal, reading, writing, listening).
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
