PDCP - Development Engineer / SR Engineer (Packaging)
Job Overview
This role as a Development SR Engineer (Packaging) features two strategically important key areas. On one hand, the role is responsible to design and implement a solution-oriented, lean, and efficient process framework that closely guides and supports the internal packaging development activities. The aim is to simplify and standardize development activities and packaging solutions, reducing complexity, and minimize non-value-adding tasks to accomplish high levels of operational excellence in our internal process landscape. On the other hand, the introduction of novel packaging solutions, pro-active manufacturing technology research, and implementation of new innovative concepts within agreed time and cost frames are key parts of the role.
Main Responsibilities
• Structure the internal packaging and tray development processes and define how SHL will conduct packaging development in the future.
• Strive for excellence: Shape an efficient, solution-oriented development framework to standardize development sequences, minimize complexity, boost efficiency, reduce throughput time, and eliminate non-value-adding activities.
• Design and pivot novel tray manufacturing technologies and packaging concepts in collaboration with internal partners and external vendors.
• Lead research activities to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of potential new packaging technologies and concepts. Identify and implement innovative and differentiated packaging solutions, while pursuing a systematic approach to project experimentation, testing, and validation.
• Implement and coordinate technology transfers domestically and internationally. Evaluate economic risks and quantify benefits for potential in-house capability ramp up.
• Leverage and embed newly added internal competencies such as prototyping and simulation
• Locally manage and execute Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) initiatives related to packaging.
• Work with internal and external partners to develop solutions while managing confidentiality, partnerships, or development agreements.
• Design and conduct experiments (e.g. laboratory or process experiments) in order to assess new technologies, materials, processes, equipment, etc.
• Safeguard relevant specifications and comply with regulatory requirements.
Skills and Qualification
• Relevant degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline
• Ideally 5-10 years of relevant work experience in a related field
• Sound understanding of different packaging concepts
• Experience in tray design and tooling development for vacuum forming or other tray forming technologies
• Fundamental understanding on transportation tests incl. relevant regulatory and simulation experience
• Self-driven with high levels of independence and persistence, a positive attitude, and a curious mindset
• Skilled in structured problem solving and logical thinking
• Comprehensive organizational skills and project management ability
• Strong desire to strive for excellence, even under adverse circumstances or when facing ambiguity
• Familiar with 3D design software (Solidworks or other CAD) and technical drawings
• Proficient communication skills in English (TOEIC 700 or above) and fluent in Chinese
• Effective communication and presentation skills to communicate complex information to diverse groups of stakeholders
