SHL Medical (“SHL” or “we”) seeks to build and maintain your trust is an important part of this mission. We understand that our success in achieving this goal will be partially based on how we protect your privacy and safeguard your personal data. This Privacy Notice explains what personal data we collect, for what purposes we need such data, how we protect your data as well as your rights with respect such data.

Applicability

This Privacy Notice applies to personal data collected by SHL, its affiliates or subsidiaries when you interact with us, such as when visiting our websites, social media pages or other platforms or when using or purchasing our products or services (“SHL Services”).

What personal data do we typically collect?

Contact Information: data elements in this category include names (including titles, mailing address, email address, telephone/mobile number).

General Demographics: data elements in this category include personal characteristics and preferences, such as your preferred language, data from social media platforms, education and professional information.

Commercial Information: data elements in this category include customer account information, and related records.

Unique IDs & Accounts Details: data elements in this category include unique ID number (such as customer number), system identifiers (including username or online credentials), advertising IDs and IP address.

Online & Technical Information: this includes internet or other electronic network activity information. Data elements in this category include IP addresses, MAC addresses, online user IDs, device characteristics (such as browser information), web server logs, application logs, browsing data, website and app usage, first party cookies, third party cookies.

Some personal data you may have shared directly with us. Other personal data may be collected automatically when you visit our sites or use SHL Services.

We do not collect sensitive personal data under any applicable law without your explicit consent. If you choose to submit sensitive personal information through your use of the SHL Services, you acknowledge that the submission is voluntary, as would be any subsequent processing and use as a result of the collection.

For what purposes do we collect personal data

We collect and process personal data to help us meet our general purpose of driving patient health and independence every day around the world.  More specifically, we collect your personal data for the following purposes:

  • Communications and customer service. This includes Identifying and authenticating you to our different websites, administering and maintaining preferences as well as optimizing your experience; Responding to your questions or requests for information; Interacting with you on social media
  • Marketing and promotion.  We are sharing marketing and promotional information on our products and services. You may opt out of promotional or marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link or by writing to us at [email protected].
  • Research and development. Carrying out research and analysis to develop and improve SHL Services.
  • Security, including detecting threats and protecting against malicious or fraudulent activity
  • Recordkeeping and Auditing

We either disclose the purpose at collection when you provide your personal data or collect data based on legitimate business purposes that are compatible with the purpose of collecting your personal data and that are not prohibited by law.

Legal basis

This section outlines why the processing purposes comply with the law (legal basis).

  • Communication and Customer Service
    The legal basis is “legitimate Interest” for managing consumer and business inquiries and “performance of a contract” for sending transactional information for engagement with business contacts.
  • Marketing & Promotion
    The legal basis is “consent” for sending you marketing email and text communications and for non-essential tracking technologies on our websites
  • Research & Development (“R&D”): the legal basis is “consent”
  • Security: the legal basis is “legitimate interest”
  • Recordkeeping and Auditing: the legal basis is “performance of a contract” for transactional data and “legal obligation” for certain recordkeeping activities

Access to your Personal Data

Your personal data will be under the control of SHL. We may make your personal data available to our vendors and service providers (including “service providers” who help us run our business). This includes hosting our sites, processing payment information, delivering our emails and marketing communications to you, analyzing the data we collect and sending you the products and services you requested. We also disclose or otherwise make available your personal data with lawyers, auditors, consultants, information technology and security firms, and others who provide services to us. We disclose or otherwise make available only the personal data needed for these companies to complete the tasks we request or, where permitted by applicable law, use the personal data for certain internal purposes such as security or fraud detection. We instruct our service providers to appropriately process and protect your personal data.

SHL may be required to disclose your personal data when compelled by law, subpoena or court order, or other legal process. SHL may also at its discretion process, use, and disclose your personal data where the protection of the public interest is involved.

Your Rights

Your information. Depending on your location (the jurisdiction in which are a resident), you may have different data subject rights available to you. These may include a right to access, review, correct, or delete your personal data that SHL has received, collected, processed, and/or used. When available, you can also tell us to stop sending you email and text messages by following the opt-out instructions sent with these instructions.  There are some situations where we may be unable to grant your request (e.g. deleting transaction data where we have a legal obligation to keep it).

Data retention. We will retain your personal data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or as required by applicable laws or regulations. We reserve the right to retain personal data for a longer period if we have reasonable grounds for doing so including but not limited to a request from law enforcement, the resolution of a complaint, or the protection of our interests under this Privacy Notice.

Security of your Personal data

The security and confidentiality of your personal data matters to us. We have therefore adopted and follow generally accepted industry security safeguards and practices intended to ensure, as far as reasonably possible, the security and integrity of your personal data and protect your personal data from unauthorized access, use and disclosure. We evaluate these safeguards on an ongoing basis to help minimize the risks from new security threats as they become known.

International transfers

SHL has its head offices in Switzerland with its main regional offices in Taiwan, Sweden and the United States. As a multinational company, SHL undertakes data transfers, either within the SHL group of entities, or when sharing your data with service providers or selected partners that may store, process, or access your data in a country other than the one in which it was collected with adequate protections and safeguards in place.

As far as EU citizens are concerned, (but also citizens of Switzerland and UK for example) this means that their data may be processed outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), either in countries have been recognized by the European Commission to offer adequate data protection, like the Switzerland (where our global headquarters are located), or in other countries that are not deemed, by the European Commission, as offering such level of data protection. For such transfers of data, because special safeguards need to be foreseen to ensure that the protection travels with the data, we use the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, standardized and pre-approved model data protection clauses. Children’s Privacy

SHL Services should not be offered to those under the age of eighteen nor do we seek to collect information from those under that age. If we become aware that we have unintentionally collected any children’s personal data without parental consent where required, we will delete it from our systems.

Changes to this Notice

This Privacy Notice was updated on 12 February 2025. We reserve at our sole discretion the right to change this Privacy Notice at any time. Notices will be provided when and where appropriate in case any material changes to this Privacy Notice such as the way that we collect, process, or use your personal data. Any material changes to this notice will be effective at the time of posting of the notice of the update.
