SHL Medical (hereinafter referred to as “SHL”) has announced plans to set up a manufacturing site in Zug, Switzerland to support increasing demands for autoinjector production. The new site will enable SHL Medical to address its expanding business needs with the most advanced equipment as well as a more agile set-up and sustainable operations flow.
SHL is a pioneer and technology frontrunner in autoinjectors and advanced drug delivery systems. It employs over 5,200 employees1 worldwide and offers first-in-class design, manufacturing, and final assembly solutions for pharma and biotech clients globally.
In 2018, SHL established its headquarters in Zug to further consolidate its drug delivery offerings and strengthen its partnerships with its global pharmaceutical customers. The new manufacturing site in Europe is an extension of SHL’s ongoing transformation to enhance its business continuity strategy and meet the dynamic growth of market demands.
The SHL facility will be located within the Tech Cluster Zug, which is developed by Metall Zug in collaboration with its subsidiary, Urban Assets Zug AG. The location was selected as it presents an exciting opportunity to set up a smarter and more sustainable building at the outset of the site’s planning. The facility will include both office and production areas, which will be designed to include energy-efficient features and ecologically sustainable manufacturing processes. Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
“SHL is continuously expanding its footprint to be closer to our customers in the European region as part of our long-term commitment to fortifying our operations in the global landscape. We saw the need to expand our manufacturing capabilities from both a geographical as well as a service perspective, and Zug’s vision to build a smart and ecological technology hub aligns with SHL’s goal to create a more digitalized and sustainable future for the company and its stakeholders,” said SHL Medical CEO, Ulrich Faessler.
Metall Zug is calling for submissions in an architectural competition for the SHL site. Click here to learn more about the project and the Tech Cluster Zug.
