From process development to final assembly: Supporting parenteral product development
August 04 2021
In the latest issue of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Packing Sourcer magazine, Amy Hartl and Markus Goldinger, both of whom are process development (PD) directors at SHL Medical, share their insights on the benefits of fully integrating processes that impact both the device developer and the pharma partner in combination product development.
Continuing on SHL Medical’s thought-leadership article on process development published in the May issue of ONdrug Delivery magazine, here the authors argue that cutting costs, reducing time to market, and creating a collaborative approach are just some of the benefits of holistic product development. This is made possible through a comprehensive suite of in-house capabilities that enable the production of autoinjector sub-assemblies as well as the final assembly of the device with the drug and primary container. Hartl and Goldinger further stress that such a level of integration is not commonplace in the market today.
The pandemic has highlighted new imperatives in parenteral product development, and it is evident that even greater value is being placed in partnerships that can accelerate products to market.
