Manufacturing Engineer – Assembly & Automation Technology

This role is embedded in the Manufacturing Engineering group within our Global Operations Engineering team at our new state-of-the-art device manufacturing facility in North Charleston, South Carolina. Together with the rest of your team, you will drive and support manufacturing automation, with a particular focus on assembly processes and automated production equipment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Primary SME for automated production equipment, with a focus on our downstream assembly operations and related equipment
  • Improve system & equipment reliability for the core processes to meet all customer, business & regulatory requirements
  • Lead the development of improvement plans and requirements for capacity expansion and future production systems and processes
  • Lead & support troubleshooting and issue resolution of critical production equipment to minimize unplanned downtime
  • Lead and support commissioning and acceptance testing of new production equipment
  • Manage technology transfer (receiver function) of new products and processes into mass production
  • Support validation activities as necessary
  • Participate as a critical team member on project teams to start up new facilities, equipment, or processes
  • Lead and support the identification of novel production equipment for next gen manufacturing systems
  • Promote use of new technologies and industry-leading trends. Provide highest level of technical expertise
  • Collaborate closely with production teams, machine builders, process/product development groups, and the quality department on performance/process improvements, troubleshooting, and critical event response
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent education/experience required A
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering with automated production equipment, preferably in the medical device industry
  • Direct experience troubleshooting and/or improving manufacturing processes & equipment
  • Knowledge of common problem-solving and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies.
  • Effective analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of CAD software
  • Experience with industrial programming and/or software systems
  • Excellent intercultural and interdisciplinary communication skills
  • Ability to work independent with strong attention to detail and focus on efficiency, effectiveness and cost
  • Passionate & committed self-starter with “can do” attitude, team player and taking responsibility to get the job done
