Overview:

The Project Costing Specialist will be responsible for developing accurate and detailed cost estimates for all SHL internal and external projects. The Project Costing Specialist is part of the Global Project Finance team, within the Global Financial Planning & Analysis team. This role plays a critical part in the project planning process by providing financial insights that help drive decisions on project feasibility, budgeting, and resource allocation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost estimation within a manufacturing environment as well as experience with project finance as well as excellent analytical skills, able to work independently and high attention to detail.

 

Responsibilities:

  • The Project Costing Specialist’s key objectives are to develop cost estimates and perform budget and financial planning for SHL internal and customer projects.
  • Cost Estimation: Ensure prompt delivery of cost requests to support the company's daily operations.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for projects, including materials, labor, capital investment (e.g., molding toolset, assembly equipment, inspection equipment), and other expenses (e.g., travel, outsourced activities).
  • Budget and Financial Planning: Assist in the development of project budgets based on cost estimates.
  • Support financial projections by breaking down costs into WBS levels (level 2: project phases, level 3: country, level 4: business unit).
  • To achieve these objectives the Project Costing and Specialist must collaborate cross-functionally and be able to undertake rigorous analysis
  • Collaborate with cost requesters, such as technical (e.g., PMO, Testing, Simulation, Process Development), production, and other organizations to gather necessary data for cost estimates. Collaborate to secure project scope, accuracy of inputs, and perform calculations based on defined scenarios.
  • Analysis: Analyze documents such as tooling and equipment quotes to prepare estimates. Review historical data to improve the accuracy of future estimates
  • Support the global project finance team in Switzerland with Project and WBS creations as well as ad hoc analysis
  • Understand Percentage of Completion accounting, including monthly planned cost updates on the full project portfolio to comply with financial accounting standards and allow proper revenue recognition
  • Work closely together with the local Project Management Office in Taiwan, to support new requests in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Support process standardisation across our Project Finance processes and engage across functions

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years of finance experience, ideally in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • University degree in Business, Finance, Science, Industrial Engineering or similar
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken is a must

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous working experience, preferably with cost estimation or financial accounting
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and preferably with other data analysis tools such as Power BI, or SQL for complex data modeling and reporting.
  • Experience working with manufacturing and technical development teams
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Solid analytical skills with a high attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Ideally, experience working with big data sets
  • Positive, “can-do” attitude
  • Strong team player with strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Responsible, resilient, and stress-resistant.
  • Strong know-how of SAP S4, SAP PS, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP BW or other BI systems
